Playwright at Work
You hear it all around: resolutions don’t work, blah blah, it’s so terrible to set goals because then you’ll feel bad if you don’t succeed, blah blah, don’t try to make a change it doesn’t work blah blah.
Don’t believe it. New Year’s Resolutions are AWESOME. The trick is to celebrate the new year as often as possible. For example, I only have to manage to keep my January 1st resolutions until the Lunar New Year on February 19th. That’s just a few weeks! Norooz, the Persian New Year, rolls around on March 21st this year. April Fool’s Day was the ancient Roman New Year, and if you can’t keep a resolution from Norooz to April 1st, well. The Summer Solstice is on June 21st, and that’s a good time to re-up on resolutions. Then you’ve got the Ethiopian New Year (September 12th) and Rosh Hashanah (September 13th) which means you’ve only got to manage ONE DAY. Muharram, the Muslim New Year, hits on October 15th, and October 31st was the Celtic New Year (Samhain) before the Christians came along. If you get that far, you can make it until January 1st again, right? RIGHT? Right.
So here’s to fresh starts and being fabulous.
